„Sometimes sun, sometimes rain…” Thanks to the shore stations that have come into existence within the framework of the SatBałtyk project, located on the campus of the Pomeranian Academy in Słupsk  and in the seaside village of Gać, the inhabitants of Słupsk, holidaymakers and tourists can know all there is to know about the current weather situation in Słupsk and by the sea. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, these stations monitor and provide information on the following weather parameters: wind speed and direction, air temperature (also sensible), air humidity and atmospheric pressure. Additional measurements are of solar radiation energy (irradiance) and the energy of heat radiation in the atmosphere, that is, of infra-red (IR) radiation. The coastal station also measures the UV index, that is, the level of harmful ultra-violet radiation. This index tells us how much harmful UV radiation is reaching the Earth’s surface at any instant near the measurement station. Holidaymakers wishing to sunbathe healthily on the beach can thus monitor UV levels and avoid excessively high amounts.
